  "content": "<p>UPDATE: Here is an existing topic that I didn't know about - <a href=\"https://www.kaggle.com/c/rsna-str-pulmonary-embolism-detection/discussion/182736#1009881\" target=\"_blank\">https://www.kaggle.com/c/rsna-str-pulmonary-embolism-detection/discussion/182736#1009881</a></p>\n<p>Sorry I am new to the field of medical imaging and wonder if many more like me would like to understand the differences in simple words? </p>\n<hr>\n<p>As I understand a SERIES consists of multiple Images (SOPInstanceUID) of the <strong>same patient</strong>? And a STUDY actually refers to <strong>multiple patients</strong>? </p>\n<p>Because a CT scan takes multiple 2D images - so, there are multiple <code>.dcm</code> files for the same SERIES. </p>\n<p>Is this is a good understanding? </p>\n<hr>\n<p>PS: Thanks Kaggle community, the discussions have been a gold mine. </p>",

In this data, we only have one study per patient.<br>\n -----SeriesInstanceUID - one set of images taken in a continuously (say 200 images through the chest, top to bottom)<br>\n                                         In this data we only have one Series from the Study. In real life, there would be other series also.<br>\n--------SOPInstanceUID - a single image. Each stored in a .dcm file.</p>",
